DYSPHORIA - a painting series
Exhibition Text
Using ideas and themes of dissatisfaction and dysphoria, I pained this series to show the pursuit of happiness. With inspiration from Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers series, I chose to have a sunflower as my subject, symbolizing happiness and life itself (which this piece argues goes hand in hand); and inspiration from Luiza Porto's Untitled-dysphoria, I chose to show the vulnerable woman's body to symbolize the pursuit of this happiness, and suggest the fail thereof.
My piece Dysphoria is a series, painted on three hand-stretched canvases with acrylic paint, is meant to show the viewer the difficult pursuit of happiness doomed to fail due to the human inability to escape dysphoria.
